Members of the North London Artist Network will be showcasing recent work by its members in their much anticipated group show at the Camden Image Gallery (31/10-2/11). This exhibition will celebrate the networks whirlwind success in its inaugural year and will be the first time that all members will have exhibited together, highlighting the strength and breadth of artistic talent and diversity in practice amongst its membership.
The North London Artist Network, based in Barnet, is limited to 36 members, all visual artists living and working within a few miles of each other, energising and supporting each other in their passion for making art.
Artists will be showing new and previously unseen work, making the exhibition a fascinating chance for visitors to see the most up-to-date direction of each artist’s practice. The network consists of new and established artists, all of whom will be selling work at affordable prices.
NLAN founder Paul Regan says that he hopes visitors to the exhibition will “discover work by artists that are new to them. Maybe they will fall in love with a piece and decide to buy it. If so, not only might it prove a good investment and bring pleasure for years to come, they will also know that they have supported a hard working artist living or working nearby”.
“NLAN is a group of artists who conduct their practice in a very professional way. They are artists who question their vision of the world, develop ideas and present their discoveries through work of the highest quality”.
NLAN’s website, Twitter and Facebook pages are full of success stories, with members taking part this year in Art Fairs, Open Studios and Solo and Group shows, including being selected for major central London exhibitions. However, Paul says that the group show in Camden will “definitely be the highlight of the year”.
Sculptor and NLAN committee member Jessica Miller can’t wait to see all the work displayed together. ‘It’s going to be a huge celebration of something really special’ she said. ‘The network has brought together some great artists and with nearly all members exhibiting, the gallery will be very busy for the Private View and throughout the three days of the show’.
NLAN also works with local businesses in North London to promote good art to as wide a public as possible, showing at trendy bars like the Taproom on Upper Street in Islington to corporate environments like Pentland Brands in Finchley.
The venue for the exhibition, the Camden Image Gallery, is a new space run by Elena Chimonas, located next to Camden Road station and just a five minute walk from Camden Town Underground station. Being on the intersection of the two northern branches of the Northern Line, it’s a perfect location for a group of North London artists to show their work.
The North London Artist Network is still young, but looking at what it’s already achieved in its first year, they are definitely a group to keep an eye on for the future.
